Case Study – Hotel CCTV System
CCTV For Hotels - Security
Business Challenge
A London luxury hotel chain were running an analogue legacy CCTV system across their estate. The system was resource hungry and becoming unreliable. The Hotels needed to have a scalable IP solution that could incorporate their additional security requirements of ANPR, affray systems, panic alarms and intruder alarms.
Our Approach
Ajar Technology was engaged by the Hotel company to design, supply, install and commission a scalable centralised IP CCTV system to replace the legacy analogue system across their estate. Due to the hotels being in 24/7 x 365 live operation it was agreed that the works would be carried out in phases. Ajar Technology liaised with the key stakeholders including IT, security and operational management staff to survey the existing analogue system and review the new requirements for an up to date all round security package.
Our Solution
Phase 1 of the project covered 4 of their 8 hotels, including their flagship hotel with 1,600 accommodation rooms alone, and involved working around a 24/7 live hotel operation, requiring a focused health and safety coordination effort with various client stakeholders to ensure that their 2,000+ guests per day were not in any risk and their stay was not disrupted.
The works were carried out in;
- Kitchens
- Bars
- Restaurants
- Reception & check-in areas
- Accommodation floors
- Roof levels
- Car parks
Due to the age and type of buildings, the project also brought with it the added challenge of working around asbestos walls and ceilings, which was carefully carried out in collaboration with the hotel Estates and Health & Safety teams.
Recordings were managed by virtualised server & storage clusters in two separate locations connected over the hotel WAN to provide failover & resiliency, with over 500TB of storage to allow for 180 days of retention.
In summary, the project comprised the following
- Fibre connectivity with redundant and resilient routes between comms cabinets.
- Internal & External high definition IP CCTV system across 630no. cameras
- Automatic number plate recognition to provide authorised vehicles access to the hotel car park
- zone Affray system and Panic Alarm across 600m of illuminated, anti-ligature affray strip
- Intruder alarm systems across highly secure areas
- Over 50,000m of structured cabling installed to serve the security system
The Benefits
Ajar Technology are currently engaged in phase 2 of the project, which covers the completion of the CCTV system on the remaining sites, estimated to be in excess of 400 cameras, and the design, installation and commissioning of an estate wide access control system to provide security to the corporate & back of house doors, estimated to be circa 1,000 access controlled doors.
